Process of marble manufacture though the history

Stones are one of the earliest materials used by mankind. Natural deposits of granite, marble, slate and other stones have served a wide range of applications. The most primitive method of stone cutting involved simply hitting a soft stone with a harder one. This process dates back to, appropriately enough, the Early Stone Age.

From the dawn of time stone making had two fundamental steps, extracting the stone and then treating and shaping it for its desired purpose. Though over time, the ways have evolved and became rather more detailed.

Today the process begins with surface stripping, where crawler tractors remove material covering the stone to be extracted. Most of the time blasting is done by drilling holes into the earth and packing them with explosives, or using air balloons that are put in the cracks then filled with air creating space between the block and its origin.
With CNC stone cutting machines, there are almost no limits to the objects that can be produced, from flat countertops to intricately-cut architectural pieces

Every block is unique in its own way so every block must go through these five steps to classify it:

Block size
Tones
Amount of streaks
Cracks
Cleanliness

Moving on to the arrival and unloading of marble blocks

After every few blocks are extracted from the quarry HGV lorries are brought to transport them. At each production center, the blocks are unloaded and classified in the blocks yard

During both loading/ unloading and during processing the blocks need to be moved and handled with cranes and specific machines Due to their large dimensions and heavy weight.
